Plans Ahead

Having successfully completed three years of its journey since the formation of Druk Green, it looks forward to further growth and the development of the hydropower sector.  Druk Green hopes to develop expertise in the development of the hydropower resources and to gain excellence in the operation and maintenance of the hydropower plants.

In the efforts to develop expertise in hydropower development, Druk Green is already playing a lead role in the implementation of the Dagachhu hydropower project. Druk Green is also actively participating in the Government’s initiative to accelerate hydropower development to add 10,000 MW by 2020. Druk Green is preparing itself for the joint venture projects with the Indian Power Sector Units (PSUs).

On the sidelines of the 10,000 MW projects, Druk Green has also been investigating a number of medium sized projects. In 2011, Druk Green plans to complete the detail project report of Tsibjalumchhu diversion scheme to THP dam, feasibility report of the 210 MW Nikachhu hydropower project, pre-feasibility report of 50-80 MW Aiechhu hydropower project, pre-feasibility study of 81-217 MW Gamrichhu hydropower project.

In an effort to develop excellence in the operation and maintenance of hydropower plants, Druk Green also plans to strengthen and upgrade the existing three centers of excellences and establish more centers of excellences to minimize the high dependence on expatriate expertise. Druk Green will also be benchmarking its operations to regional and international levels as it continues to ratchet upwards its performance linked system’s targets.
