CoEVaTA Markets Special Service to Domestic Industries
It is yet another landmark for CoEVaTA as it stretches its horizon beyond the regular boundaries; using expert skills and state-of-the-art condition monitoring instrument in the domestic industries. A team from CoEVaTA conducted Ultrasonic inspection at Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials Bhutan Private Limited (SGCMBPL), Pasakha on the 4th of September, 2012. SGCMBPL is an ISO Certified Company in Integrated Management System (Quality Management System; Environment Management System; Occupational Health and Safety Management System) and follows standard practices to ensure quality products with safety and care for the environment.
The Ultrasonic inspection was carried out on mild steel rods of 50 mm and the elevator buckets of 10 mm thickness. The mild steel rods were bent locally to be used as reinforcements in the concrete gate casting that weighed about 14 tons. These gates are used as furnace gates and exposed to extreme heat. During the inspection, it was found that out of the forty rods, two of the rods had internal flaws which could have otherwise gone un-noticed. The elevator buckets also indicated internal flaws. The benefits of modern condition monitoring instruments is that it can not only save costly failures resulting from such un-detected internal flaws but can also avert timely disasters including human lives. This also proved that SGCMBPL is truly an ISO Certified Company.

Besides Ultrasonic inspection, CoEVaTA shall also provide Thermography services to monitor the switchyard and other electrical components of SGCMBPL and other industries in the coming months. For CoEVaTA, this landmark is a very important step towards fulfilling CoEVaTA’s mandate of capacity building and serving the nation through its special services. Mr. Tenzin, who is presently the Head of CoEVaTA extended his appreciation to the team for the excellent job and remarked that these small steps shall enable human resource capacity building and achieving World class Center of Excellence in modern condition monitoring, which are some of the missions of the Center. He also said that the special support and motivation of Druk Green Management has been the key driver behind the success story of CoEVaTA today.
The analysts were more than pleased to render such services to other industries apart from the regular services to Druk Green and they remain motivated and excited to do more. When asked, Mr. Sherub Tharchen said, “It is encouraging that the importance of condition monitoring practices is now being realized by our domestic industries too”. Mr. Rabi Pradhan remarks “Its dream coming true when we are able to enter into wider space and lend helping hand to other industries with such NDT methods and I feel such practices supports the concepts of GNH”.
CoEVaTA has skilled personnel and state-of-the-art instruments to provide specialized services in five (5) different techniques and looks forward to marketing services in India as well.
