Fire, Safety & Disaster Management Unit (FSDMU) of Chhukha Hydropower Plant has successfully conducted training program on First-aid Fire Fighting on 3rd & 4th December, 20112. The training program took two days in order to impart the training to all the employees of the plant.

The main objective of thee training was to create awareness on fire safety and to equip every individual with the basic knowledge of firefighting.

During the training, staffs were lectured about the types of fires, their causes and the consequences. They were also explained about the basic measures that are to be taken during the fire emergencies. Identification of the fire extinguishers (based on different classes), their operations and their applications were all included in the session. Staffs were also briefed on placing the right fire extinguisher at right place in the work stations

The training program also included the practical session with a mock drill, where different classes of fire were created and the participants were made to fight, choosing the right type of fire extinguisher.

The drill was targeted to provide de the participant’s hands on training in case of f an eventuality, without having to call 5234 and wait for r the arrival of the professional fire & rescue team. Though firefighting, fire safety and managing disaster require special trainings and skills, there are so some basic skills that can be easily learned and applied. T The participants were very satisfied with the presentations and drills and some said it’s a lifesaving kit and one must remember first aid firefighting techniques. The FSDMU also briefed on the safety to ensure that workplaces and the workers are safe and healthy and it is also one of the mandates of Druk Green. The FSDMU aims at making o our communities safer by preventing fires and accident and responding quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Mr. Thinley Dorji, who presently heads FSDMMU urged every individual to work together and prevent fire disasters, which starts mostly with a small match stick and human carelessness.
