DGPC Successfully Completes 7.83 MWp Distributed Rooftop Solar Project
November 4, 2026: Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) has successfully completed and commissioned 7.83 MWp of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems installed across 185 public infrastructure facilities under Thimphu Thromde, as well as DGPC facilities at the Chhukha and Basochhu hydropower plants.
Implemented under Subproject 1 of the 35 MWp Distributed Solar for Public Infrastructure Project (DSPIP), the initiative was financed through an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan. With the completion of the project, the installed rooftop solar systems will now enter the operational phase under the responsibility of DGPC’s Operation & Maintenance Department.

The successful completion of Subproject 1 marks an important milestone in DGPC’s renewable energy development journey, increasing the Corporation’s solar PV portfolio from 23 MWp, including the Sephu Solar Power Plant, to over 31 MWp. The project has also provided valuable practical experience and strengthened DGPC’s institutional capacity in developing and managing both rooftop and utility-scale solar projects. The bidding process for Subproject 2 of DSPIP is expected to be initiated soon.
In parallel, DGPC is advancing several major solar initiatives. The 120 MWp Jamjee Solar Project is currently under implementation, while the contract for the 120 MWp Wobthang Solar Project in Bumthang Dzongkhag, financed through ADB, is expected to be awarded soon. Several other solar projects are also at advanced stages of preparation for implementation.
These initiatives form part of DGPC’s broader commitment to developing Bhutan’s renewable energy potential under the national target of achieving 25,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2040, contributing towards a sustainable, secure and clean energy future for Bhutan.
Congratulating the solar project team on the successful completion of Subproject 1, the Managing Director of DGPC underscored the importance of ensuring a smooth transition of solar projects from the construction phase to sustained operations. He also emphasised the need for close coordination with Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC) to facilitate efficient energy transactions.
