DGPC Conducts Public Consultation for the 104 MW Dangchhu Hydropower Project
Nyisho Gewog, Wangdue Phodrang – September 12, 2026: Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd (DGPC) conducted a public consultation meeting to take forward the proposed 104 MW Dangchhu Hydropower Project at the Nyisho Gewog Centre Meeting Hall at Samtengang. The consultation brought together around 60 community members from Nyisho and Bjena Gewogs. The consultation was also attended by the senior officers from the Dzongkhag Administration of Wangduephodrang led by Dasho Dzongdag, Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC), Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS), and other relevant government agencies.
The consultation provided an open platform for the communities to understand the proposed project and to directly engage with the project team for any clarifications.
Project Overview: The salient features of the proposed 104 MW Dangchhu project, including its overall configuration and major project components.
Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA):The findings of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, covering the potential environmental and social impacts associated with the project.
Impact Management Measures: The potential impacts and proposed management and mitigation measures along with the Environmental Management Plan and associated considerations including a grievance redressal system.

Project Development: The Dangchhu was one of the projects being taken forward under Phase III of the ongoing initiative to develop small hydropower projects. The project was being developed as a joint venture between DGPC and Carbon Resources of India. Druk Hydro Energy Ltd (DHyE), a subsidiary company of DGPC, planned to implement the project within a timeline of 44 months from the start of project activities.
Community Engagement: The consultation provided an opportunity for community to raise queries and seek clarifications, and share their views regarding the proposed project. The views and clarifications related mainly to the acquisition of private land as needed and resettlement and rehabilitation aspects, expansion of infrastructure such as roads, prioritizing drinking and irrigation water, and opportunities for employment and economic activities.
The communities of Nyisho and Bjena Gewogs fully supported and endorsed the project. The next steps would be to get the statutory clearances at the Gewog, Dzongkhag and national levels and initiate project implementation.
Such public consultations form an important part of DGPC’s stakeholder engagement process and reflects the Corporation’s commitment to ensuring transparent, meaningful, and inclusive participation of local communities in the development of renewable energy projects. DGPC reaffirmed its commitment to continued engagement with the communities and other stakeholders throughout the project development period and thereafter into the operation and maintenance phase as a member of the community.
