Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) and B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited (B.Grimm) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 19, 2025, in Thimphu, marking a strategic partnership in the development of a renewable energy project in Bhutan.
The MoU was signed by Dasho Chhewang Rinzin, Managing Director of DGPC, and Dr. Harald Link, Chairman of B.Grimm, in the presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan, Lyonchen Tshering Tobgay, who graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by Lyonpo Gem Tshering, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR); Mr. Cherdchai Yiwlek, Executive Vice President of B.Grim (represented Dr. Harald Link at the signing of the MoU), Dasho Ugen Tshechup Dorji, Counsel General of Thailand; and senior representatives from MoENR, Ministry of Finance, Druk Holding and Investments, Electricity Regulatory Authority, Bhutan Power System Operator, and the management teams of both DGPC and B.Grimm.
The agreement outlines future collaboration framework for developing other renewable energy projects through Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) to be incorporated under Bhutanese law. This partnership is intended to expand Bhutan’s renewable energy portfolio by integrating solar power alongside hydropower and promoting clean and sustainable energy generation.
B.Grimm, a leading private power producer in Thailand, was established in 1878 and is one of the country’s oldest and most diversified corporations. With a strong focus on the power sector, B.Grimm specializes in developing, financing, constructing, and operating greenfield power plants powered by natural gas, solar, wind, and hydro energy.
This MoU aligns with Bhutan’s Renewable Energy Development Roadmap 2024 and supports the country’s long-term goal of increasing its generation capacity by 2040 while maintaining its carbon-neutral status. It also marks the first hydropower collaboration between Bhutan and Thailand and signals a significant milestone in DGPC’s efforts to diversify its energy sources and strengthen international partnerships.
The partnership underscores DGPC’s commitment to contributing to national energy security and expanding into new forms of renewable energy, while B.Grimm has reaffirmed its long-term interest in supporting Bhutan’s clean energy ambitions through investment and technology collaboration.
This MoU marks a major step forward in Bhutan-Thailand energy cooperation and paves the way for future joint development of hydropower and solar projects.
