DGPC conducted an orientation program for 100 new recruits from Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) and the College of Science and Technology (CST) on July 17 and 19, 2025, in Thimphu. The recruits were selected through on-campus recruitment drives held at both colleges, reflecting DGPC’s commitment to nurturing young engineering talent directly from academic institutions.
The cohort comprises graduates holding Bachelor’s degrees in various engineering disciplines, including Electrical, Civil, Geology, Survey, Power, Mechanical, Electronics and Communication, and Instrumentation and Control. In addition, Diploma holders in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical engineering from JNEC also participated in the program. Of the total recruits, 58 are from JNEC and 42 from CST.
The program commenced on July 17, 2025, and was graced by Dasho Chhewang Rinzin, Managing Director of DGPC, who delivered the inaugural address. In his opening remarks, Dasho highlighted DGPC’s journey and its evolving role in Bhutan’s energy sector. He spoke about the country’s ambitious goal of developing 15,000 MW of hydropower and 5,000 MW of solar power, and emphasized the corporation’s ongoing and future projects.
Dasho acknowledged the increasing demand for skilled manpower at DGPC, citing the growing workload driven by the expansion of the energy sector. He emphasized the pivotal role of hydropower in Bhutan’s economic development and expressed his deep appreciation to the recruits for choosing to join DGPC, especially at a time when the country is experiencing a shortage of professionals due to rising migration trends. He also underscored the importance of dedication and responsibility in public service, encouraging the recruits to embrace their roles with a sense of purpose.
On the second day of the program, July 19, 2025, Directors (head of Departments) introduced their respective departments and shared insights into their roles and functions within DGPC. These sessions aimed to familiarize the new employees with the corporation’s structure, mandate, and expectations.
The recruits will soon be deployed to various power plants and project sites across the country, where they will officially begin their professional roles. The orientation program not only marked the beginning of their careers with DGPC but also served as a reminder of their critical contribution to powering Bhutan’s sustainable future.
